Abortion Rights in New Hampshire
New Hampshire allows abortions up to 24 weeks (6 months), with exceptions for fatal fetal diagnoses and the life of the pregnant person. Ultrasounds were previously required for any abortion visit, but are no longer required as of 5/23/22. Individuals under the age of 18 must notify a parent at least 48 hours prior to an abortion. Those under 18 who cannot obtain parental consent can go through the process of judicial bypass. Types of abortion available in New Hampshire
New Hampshire allows for both types of abortion.
medication abortion
Medication abortion typically occurs through taking two medications – misoprostol and mifepristone. A patient can also take misoprostol alone, but it is slightly less effective.
in-clinic abortion
Also known as surgical abortion, in-clinic abortion requires the assistance of a doctor. It requires the individual to make an appointment and appear in person to be performed.

Equality Health Center

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England
- Can be funded by the LAURA Fund – call them at 802-821-4660 to discuss financial support
- Some patients may be eligible for a medication abortion via telehealth services, where patients connect with providers through a secure, videoconferencing platform. Abortion via telehealth — through a secure videoconferencing platform — allows patients the option of a more private location to end a pregnancy — in a setting where they feel most comfortable — while still providing them with the necessary medical support and information. Patients will speak with a health professional at their appointment about medical information and all of their options, and have questions answered, and then come to a PPNNE health center to pick up the abortion pills. Accessing medication abortion via telehealth can reduce unnecessary trips to a health center, as well as on-site time. It can improve health equity by ensuring that people have access to the care they need in a timely manner. It can also reduce barriers that make it harder for people to get care — including securing transportation, child care, and time off work for those who do not have flexible work hours. Research has shown that providing medication abortion via telehealth is just as safe and effective as care delivered in person, and each patient is supported with 24-hour access to their health care provider for any questions or concerns they might have.
